Kiev Ukraine Church of St Elijah
Content:
overview
Church of St Elijah was built in Kiev city in 1692. The octagonal central section is adjoined by a polygonal sanctuary to the east and a vestibule, also polygonal, to the west. The nave is roofed by a cupola on a high octagonal drum. In its ground-plan, proportions, and internal layout the building follows the structure of Ukrainian three-framed single-headed wooden churches.
Gateway of St Elijah's Church of Kiev was probably built in the early eighteenth century. The nicely determined proportions give this modest entrance-way great artistic expressiveness.
