Kiev Ukraine Kovnir block

Content:

overview

The construction of the buildings known as the Kovnir block (after the monastery's serf craftsman Stepan Kovnir, 1695-1785) took place at various times: the bakery was built at the end of the seventeenth century, the bookshop in 1721-1727, and two additional buildings were erected between them in 1746-1751.

The entire group, forming a single line, is united by elaborate pediments with stucco decoration. The Kovnir block was rebuilt after fire damage by Stepan Kovnir in 1744-1748. In 1965-1968 the buildings of the block were restored, and it now houses the Museum of Historic Treasures of the Ukraine.
