The pre-revolutionary buildings which formerly lined the Kreshchatik street of Kiev city have survived only in places; most of them were destroyed by the Nazi invaders during the Second World War.

The surviving buildings of the St Petersburg Bank (No 8), designed by Leonty Benois, and the Volga-Don Bank (No 10) and Shopping Arcade (No 15), by Pavel Andreyev, were all built in 1911-14. They are close to one another in style, being characterized by attention to detail and the use of classical and Renaissance motifs.

Kreshchatik is the central street of the Kiev city of Ukraine. Kreshchatik crosses the Starokyivsky and Pechersk administrative parts of the Kiev city connecting European and Bessarab Squares. Kreshchatik is a boulevard with plenty of chestnut trees which blossom in spring makes Kreshchatik really special.
