A broad gently sloping avenue leads down to a square where a twenty-one meter obelisk towers over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier; at its base burns an eternal flame. The tomb stands at the very edge of the steep Dnepr banks, and from it opens up a view of the endless spaces on the opposite shore.
